Police desperate to identify surfer rescued from the sea off Boscombe

4:45pm Friday 17th July 2009
By Paula Roberts »

POLICE are desperately trying to identify a surfer who was rescued from the sea by lifeguards in an unconscious state.

The woman was seen in difficulties in the sea off Boscombe beach at around 11.15am Friday morning and was brought to the shore by lifegurards.

She was still attached to her surfboard.

The unconscious woman was taken to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital where she remains in a serious condition.

Sergeant Alexander Smith, of Boscombe police station, said: “So far we’ve been unable to identify the lady and it appears that she may well have been surfing on her own.”

The woman is white, believed to be in her 20s, about 5ft 7ins and of slim build with blue eyes and long blonde hair. She has a pierced lip and nose and was wearing a black O’Neill wetsuit.

She was using a very distinctive surfboard which is aqua blue in colour with J P Liquid Solutions – the name of the manufacturer – written on it.

Sergeant Smith continued: “I’d ask anyone who recognises the lady from this description to call Dorset Police urgently so that her family and friends can be contacted.”

Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police on 012… or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Boscombe Reef latest news stories

Boscombe Reef latest news stories

Over the last two days the Bournemouth Echo has reported stories that question whether or not the Boscombe reef is a good thing.

The stories focus on the fact that lots of effort has gone into improving Boscombe sea front but the issues with crime, poor quality house etc still remain as a real issue just a short walk from the beach.

The story has sparked of a serious debate on the Bournemouth Echo website that is well worth a read.
Personally, for obvious reasons I am all for the reef and I think the development of the reef is a brave, innovative move for the council to take. However after hearing that one of my business associates was stabbed over the weekend in Boscombe I fully agree that the council, businesses and residents of Boscombe must pull together and put a plan in action that will attempt to improve the whole of Boscombe.
